Get ready for the Nintendo Wii2
0
Nintendo fans will be pleased to hear the first murmurings of the successor to their hugely popular Wii console are finally emerging.
Yes the Wii2 is now well into development in a secret lab at Nintys headquarters over in Japan. No one yet knows when, how much or even what its capabailities might be but in a recent interview one of Nintendo’s top dogs Yoshio Sakimoto has squeaked the first few tantalising noises.
At Nintendo we always have the obligation to surprise users with a new game console. We have never done what others have. We prefer to create something new that catches attention, and I think this will continue this time as well. Surely the new Nintendo machine will leave you all with your mouth open.
Yoshio Sakimoto
So there you have it, what it means we have no idea but get ready to open your mouths!
All very exciting but Nintendo really need to get their act together and release it asap. Despite still being the number 1 seller in this generations console war, the Wii’s lead is now being eroded by the infinately more powerful Xbox360 and Playstation 3. Unfortunatley I can’t see it being released any earlier than Christmas 2012, with maybe the first sneek peeks at the E3 Expo next summer. Will that be too late for Nintendo to stay ahead of the game? Time will tell.
To keep us going meantime however is the exciting prospect of the Nintendo press conference at the end of this month (September 29th 2011), where hopefully they’ll tell us all the news we want to hear – the release of the new Nintendo 3DS before Christmas in the UK.
R.U.S.E. marks a new era for strategy games
0
Strategy games have come a long way over the years from the earliest Spectrum days and games like Stonkers to the console wars of the 8 and 16 bit era.
The 90s and 00s were the age of flimsy tower defence games on PCs, Games like the early Age of Empires, Civilization and Command & Conquer are fondly remembered for their addictive, but often infuriating gameplay.
Slowly evolving and emerging out of the geeks bedroom, increasing in their levels of sophistication, onto the internet and into our living rooms on all the major consoles from Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo.
History though is about to be blow away, and rebuilt once more with a groundbreaking new game coming soon to Playstation 3, PC, and Xbox 360.
R.U.S.E Developed by Eugen Systems, is unique for 2 reasons…
Firstly it introduces a unique trickery technique system that let you bluff your enemy and gain vital victories for your chosen army. Giving you the ability to camouflage your troops, lure opponents with decoy units and play the kind of mind games with your opponents that Fergie would be proud of.
Secondly it features cutting edge graphics powered by the outstanding new IRISZOOM Engine, built to work with the the latest Intel processors. R.U.S.E with the aid of IRISZOOM plunges players into the action with smooth but rapid transitions from a birds-eye overhead view right down into the blood and guts of war and vice versa. Giving a total war experience.
R.U.S.E. is scheduled to be released in September 2010 on PC, Xbox 360 and the Playstation 3 version is Move compatible, although Eugen Systems have pushed the release back several times so don’t hold your breath just yet.
Microsoft reveal Kinect UK price details
0
Microsoft have finally revealed the 2 most important details about their upcoming Xbox 360 peripheral.
Kinect will launch in the UK on the 15th November 2010 for a okay-ish £129.99 and bundled with the Kinect Adventures game (Microsoft’s version of Wii Sports). It will also be available as part of several hardware bundle packs with a new shaped Xbox 360.
If they are trying to win over the casual consumer market with Kinect they are taking a big gamble coming in at only £40 cheeper than the Nintendo Wii. As far as the casual consumer is concerned the Wii will offer better value as it comes all in one with the console already, wannabe Kinect users without an Xbox will have to shell out over £100 minimum to get their hands on what is essentially a very similar gaming experience.
Playstation 3 users will also be able to join in all the motion-control fun on the 17th September when Sony release their ‘Move’ system. With the starter pack coming in at around £50.00.
Who will win the battle is still up for debate, my feeling is Nintendo had the war all sown up before Sony and Microsoft even bothered to get out of bed.
The Evolution of Gaming » Microsoft Kinect

Over the decades, gaming has changed phenomenally from silly buttons, and joysticks, to keyboards, then controllers, and even touch-screens! But what next? The Xbox, PS3, Wii and Nintendo DS have all had to make some adjustments to outsell the competitors, and soon, Kinect will change all of that forever.
You are the controller
Kinect brings games and entertainment to life in extraordinary new ways – no controller required. Easy to use and instantly fun, Kinect (formerly known as “Project Natal”) gets everyone off the controller, and into the action!
So, what does “Kinect” do for you?
Kinect allows you to become the controller, and you can get off the couch and get some exercise and have fun with your friends and family.
Kinect features a state of the art sensor that replicates all the joints in your body to create a mini you, known as an avatar. For people familiar with the Wii, this amazing gadget will be instantly mastered and played constantly by many, perhaps a substitute to outdoors exercise?
The whole thing apparently took no less than 76 artists and 200 technicians to create.
‘The Project Natal experience is designed to generate emotional responses that echo the feelings Project Natal itself evokes. Experiencing a sense of connection and togetherness, members of the audience will be whisked away on a journey that is intense, engrossing, human-centred, interactive, imaginative and socially inclusive.’
Michel Laprise, Creative Director
Kinect is a one-of-a-kind gaming console, well, its more of an “add on” as it simply plugs into your Xbox 360 and you’re set to play!
Microsoft has announced the first official set of games for Kinect; Kinect Sports, much like Wii Sports, which will include pretty much what Wii Sports includes, Bowling, Baseball, even football. So, looks pretty good, what do you think? Leave your comments in the reply box below…
Kinect comes to the UK in November, a couple of months after Microsofts arch rivals Sony release “Move” their take on the motion-controlled gaming world. Who will win this new console war, stay tuned to Frackin Cool to find out.
More on “Kinect” and “Move” soon…
